Where do the formulas come from?
Each calculator names its source on the page: Riegel's 1981 race-prediction formula, the Daniels-Gilbert VDOT model from Daniels' Running Formula, the Karvonen heart-rate-reserve method with Tanaka's max-HR estimate, and the ACSM metabolic equations for walking and running calories. Nothing here is invented; the working is shown so you can check it.
Which pace unit should I use?
Whichever your watch and your races use. Every tool here shows both minutes per mile and minutes per kilometre, and the treadmill pages add miles per hour and kilometres per hour, because treadmill consoles think in speed while runners think in pace.
